POLICE COMMENCE INVESTIGATION INTO ASSAULT OF NLC PRESIDENT IN IMO

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault of the president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero.
The Force Public Relations Officer, force headquarters Abuja, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi made this known while addressing journalists at the police headquarters in Owerri.
Mr. Adejobi said the IGP had directed the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police of the force Criminal Investigation Department to take over the matter and ascertain the true facts surrounding the incident and to address any ambiguities that might exist.
The police spokesman noted that the investigation had commenced and assured the public that the police would follow the matter to the end and ensure that appropriate actions were taken based on the findings.
“The IGP assures the leadership of the organised labour that a thorough and unbiased investigation will be conducted to provide clarifications, while urging Organised labour and the public to remain calm as he has personally intervened to address the issues surrounding this incident,” he said.
The force PPRO, therefore reiterated police understanding of transparency and accountability in maintaining public trust.
