The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) South East, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, has described the re-election of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State for a second term in office as an indication that the people of the south east are desirous to key into the national politics to accelerate development in the zone.

Speaking to journalists in Owerri, Dr. Arodiogbu called on the candidates of the opposition parties to congratulate the Governor in the spirit of sportsmanship and join hands to develop the state.

Dr. Ijeomah noted that the APC Candidate broke a jinx of winning polling units in the Imo Government House as a sitting Governor and defeated other candidates in their local government areas.

He appealed to those that contested the governorship election with Chief Uzodimma not to distract him by going to court.

The APC National Vice Chiarman commended the people of Imo State for what he descibed as taking a bold step to re-elect Governor Uzodimma and assured them of more developmental projects.

Meanwhile, two major opposition parties in Imo State have rejected the outcome of the election.

In a joint press conference in Owerri, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Samuel Anyanwu, and his counterpart in the Labour Party (LP), Senator Athan Achonu, called for a review of the result or outright cancellation of the election.

They accused APC of using security agents to intimidate their agents, some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the voters.

Chief Anyanwu and Senator Achonu alleged that more than 70% of the votes cast were not collated at the designated centres and called on the leadership of the INEC to save the nation’s democracy.

INEC had on Sunday declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress winner of the election with over 500,000 votes after scoring majority votes in all the 27 local government areas of the state.
