The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination to revive the steel industry for optimum efficiency.
The Minister of State, Steel Development, Mr. Maigari Ahmadu, who stated this during a facility assessment of Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha, noted that President Bola Tinubu is passionate about making the steel sector more functional across the country.
The Minister stressed that the Tinubu-led administration is keen to rehabilitate the steel infrastructure and its components, thereby enhancing job creation and poverty eradication as enshrined in his eight-point agenda.
While taking stocks of activities in the institution, the Minister commended the lecturers, instructors and management for their commitment and dedication in training the students.
Mr. Ahmadu assured them of the Federal Government’s commitment towards upgrading the facility with modern equipment and standard tools.
The Minister also called on the Anambra State Government to collaborate with the Federal Government in rebuilding the steel sector, which, he said, would in turn empower youths to become economically self-reliant and reduce restiveness in the area.
Mr. Ahmadu, however, encouraged the youth to acquire skills in addition to their certificates as a surest way of becoming self-dependent.
Earlier in a speech, the Director of the Metallurgical Training Institute, Mr. Bode Fakuade, had commended the Minister for the visit and called for more government attention to the institution in terms of infrastructure and provision of modern equipment.
As part of the visit, the Minister inspected the electrical installation workshop, domestic appliances section, computer laboratory and maintenance section, electrical machine installation, battery charging section and other sections within the institute.
The Minister also paid homage to the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, after which he proceeded on a tour assessment of the Innoson Motor Assembly Plant in Nnewi.
Mr. Ahmadu later paid a courtesy visit to Governor Chukwuma Soludo where the Governor pledged to partner the Federal Government in the steel sector for optimum efficiency.
