Abia State Government says it has initiated measures to cut down the cost of governance to save money for the state.
Governor Alex Otti made this known at his monthly media interactive session held at the Government House, Umuahia.
He explained that the money saved from frivolous spending by past administrations had made it possible for the present administration to pay salaries and pensions as well as mobilize contractors to site for the ongoing major development projects.
According to the Governor the present administration is focusing on financial reengineering to ensure that the resources of the state are properly handled by professionals for best results.
On the recent raid around the Lokpanta Cattle Market in Umunneochi LGA, Governor Otti expressed regret that over 50 decomposed dead bodies, over 20 headless bodies and countless human skeletons were discovered near the Market, noting that the rates of kidnapping, prostitution, narcotics trade and other criminal vices warranted the recent demolition of some brothels in the cattle market.
While responding to questions from journalists, Governor Otti informed that his administration was deploying a different approach to secure the release of the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu maintained that such approach was not for public consumption.
The Governor expressed optimism that his own approach would yield the needed result, and it is only when the result has been achieved that the public would be informed about it.
Governor Alex Otti, who noted that the present administration was committed to infrastructure development of the State, disclosed that Ohafia-Abam–Okobo-Arochukwu road had been awarded for construction.
He also stated that construction work would soon commence in Nunya road in Isuikwuato LGA while informing that the Federal Government would soon commence work on the Ohafia-Ututu-Ihechiowa-Amuvi.
The Governor used the opportunity to thank Abia people and residents for their massive support to his administration and enjoined them to have faith in his administration.
