Abia State Government, with support from the World Bank under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), is to embark on the construction of about 219 kilometers of roads in the state.

The State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, in a media briefing, said it was part of the issues of interest discussed at this week’s Executive Council Meeting chaired by Governor Dr Alex Otti.

The Information Commissioner noted that the roads to be constructed under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project RAAMP, included the 19-kilometre Itungwa-Mgboko-Amairii, Amaise-Ahiabaubi-Nkwonwaelechi Omoba Road in Isiala Ngwa South Local government area of the state.

He said the state government also planned to partner the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to provide technical support for implementation of the Integrated National Financial Framework focusing on internally generated revenue, teaching digital economy and investment reforms.

The Commissioner said another matter of interest was “the Reclaim Our Schools Initiative,” which was part of efforts of the Governor Otti led administration agenda of reforming the education sector.

He pointed out that the government would partner Old Boys and Girls Associations, Communities and churches to upgrade the standard of education in state to an enviable height.

On the pending issues of pension arrears and salary payments for workers in various Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs), Prince Kanu advised civil servants with complaints to report to the newly established desk office at the Office of the Accountant General in the state for immediate attention.
