CONSOLIDATE ON ACHIEVEMENTS OF YOUR PREDECESSORS — NWIFURU CHALLENGES NEW CORPS MEMBERS

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ebonyi State has sworn in 1,401 2023 Batch B Stream II corps members deployed to the state for their one year mandatory service.

In a message to the event at the Old McGregor College Afikpo, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Nwifuru called on the corps members to shun ethnicity, tribalism, nepotism and contribute towards “building a nation where justice and peace shall reign.”

Governor Nwifuru, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Richard Idike, said the National Youth Service Corps had over the years served as a tool for ethnic cohesion.

He urged the corps members to see their service year as their contribution to national unity.

The Governor noted that expectations from the corps members were enormous as they were duty bound to consolidate on the achievements of their predecessors whose patriotic efforts had remained the pride of the state.

Governor Nwifuru assured them of his administration’s commitment towards creating an enabling environment during and after their orientation course with the hope that they would play their part in the development of the state.

The State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mr. Olayinka Nasamu, warned corps members to avoid every act of indiscipline and look inwards on how to give back to the society.

She observed that the orientation course had been packaged with programmes that would instill discipline and make corps members to be self-reliant.

Some of the corps members, in an interview with Radio Nigeria, said they were happy to had been called to serve their fatherland.

The Chief Judge of the State, represented by Justice Nicholas Nwode, administered oath of allegiance to the corps members.
