ABIA STATE GOV MOVES TO ESTABLISH MODULAR REFINERY, RECREATION PARKS OTHERS

Abia State Government says necessary plans have been put in place to build Modula refinery in the state to improve socio economic activities in the state.
The Commissioner for Information in the state, Prince Okey Kanu, alongside the Commissioners for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Professor Joel Ogbonna; and Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Ngozi Felix, made this known to journalists at the Government House after the state Executive Council meeting in Umuahia.
Prince Kanu also explained that the state government was setting machineries in motion to establish an innovation park aimed attracting investors and providing job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in the state.
Contributing, the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Professor Joel Ogbonna, who attributed the high cost of petroleum products in the state to the non functioning of Osisioma Depot, bad roads and destructions of pipelines by vandals, said Independent Marketers in the state were sourcing products from Lagos and Port Harcourt.
He stressed that efforts were on to rehabilitate the Osioma-depot to ensure normal distributions and supplies of the products.
Also, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Ngozi Felix, said the Ministry had planned for the participations of over 2000 women from the three senatorial zones of the state for the Annual Abia Women Delegates Conference (AWADEC) scheduled for August 13, 2023.
According to the Commissioner, the event will feature Talks from Experts to help shape the ideology and realize the potentialities of women, especially those in the rural areas; empowerment of vulnerable groups to ensure Gender Equality, which is one of the sustainable Development Goals, MDGs for 2030.
She said plans were on top gear to establish a Sexual Assault and Referral Centre to cater for victims of sexual assault and other violent acts in Abia State.
