NBA LAMENTS JUSUN STRIKE IN ABIA

REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU

For the second week running, courts across Abia State are still under lock following the strike by judiciary workers in Abia State.

The situation has led to the premises of the High Court Complex, Umuahia, being deserted since last Tuesday when the strike commenced while there was also no activity at the Customary Court of Appeal.

The Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia was also forced to conduct proceedings at a hotel as it could not access the court rooms designated for them within the high court premises, Umuahia.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria on the development, the Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Umuahia branch, Mr. Jasper Ejimofor, lamented that the strike was having a detrimental impact on the dispensation of justice.

Mr. Ejimofor noted that the strike had made life difficult for people who depended on the operations of the courts for their livelihood.

Mr. Ejimofor expressed reservations about the timing of the strike, noting that JUSUN would have allowed the Governor-Elect and his team to come in and then interphase with them in meeting the needs of judiciary workers.

He appealed to them to call off the action in the interest of justice.

The Judiciary workers had last week, downed tools over the non compliance of the state government to the payment of all the workers entitlement after writing them on several occasions.
