ASSAILANTS KILL MAN GOING FOR MORNING MASS IN AWKA

Unknown assailants have allegedly shot and killed a man in his late fifties in Umuokpu-Awka, in Awka South Local Government area of Anambra State.

The lifeless body of the victim, who was identified as Mr. Nnamdi Nwagu from Akanato Clan, was discovered on Ngene-Oji, Umuokpu Awka.

According to a youth leader in the area, the man was said to be attending an early morning mass at St. John’s Catholic Church, Umuokpu Awka when he was shot in the head, resulting in his untimely death.

The remains of the victim was later deposited at the morgue after alerting the Central Police Station (CPS) of the incident.

Most of the villagers, who bemoaned the ugly incident, called on relevant authorities to look into the insecurity in the state.

Efforts made by Radio Nigeria to get the reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, on the incident proved abortive as his phone was switched off.
