GOV. UGWUANYI VOTES AS APARTY GREETS POLLS IN UDENU LGA

REPORTER:OKECHUKWU EZEONA

Voter apathy greeted most voting centres witnessed in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

At Amube Ward 1 Orba Community, the polling station where Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi cast his vote witnessed low turnout of voters.

This is despite the fact that election material arrived the station early and actual voting commenced promptly too.

Unfortunately, there was abysmal turnout of voters when compared with what was witnessed during the Presidential and National Assembly polls.

Some of the voters when interviewed gave varied reasons why the turnout was poor.

Most of them said people lost interest in the electoral process after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, allegedly compromised the outcome of the polls.

However, the voters conducted themselves peacefully and voted for their preferred candidates.

At about 10:30am, a team of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who was on election monitoring, stormed the polling station.

They frowned at the conduct of some Party Agents who positioned themselves very close to the voting cubicle at the polling station where they made efforts to influence voters.

The leader of the anti-graft agency ordered the party agents out as according to him, it constituted vote buying.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi arrived the polling unit at exactly 12:40pm and cast his ballot.

He declined to speak with journalists but thanked the voters for coming out to vote and conducting themselves peacefully.

He thereafter walked back to his house located a few metres away from the polling station.
