WOMEN FROM ANAMBRA STATE APPEAL FOR FREE, FAIR AND CREDIBLE EXERCISE FROM INEC

Today, over ninety-three million Nigerians will go to their polling units across the country to elect a new President and members of the National Assembly.

To this end, a cross section of women from Anambra State has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to bequeath the greatest legacy to Nigerians by ensuring that the choices of the electorate prevailed at the end of the exercise.

The women, who made the appeal in separate interviews with the Radio Nigeria in Onitsha, also stressed that such could be achieved, if the election is credible and transparent.

They also pleaded that accreditation and voting should start on schedule to ensure that electorate who will turn out to vote smoothly during the exercise.

One of the respondents and the leader of Catholic Women Organisation Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Onochie, expects INEC to provide a functional BVAS, in order to commence accreditation and voting early.

Mrs. Onochie also calls for the deployment of adequate security personnel for each polling unit.

For her part, a lecturer at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam, Dr. Ifeyinwa Manafa, said credible result from INEC is all the whole world is watching to see.

A civil servant, Mrs. Nnonye Tabansi, charged INEC to ensure early arrival of electoral materials to all polling units, while a teacher, Mrs. Oluchi Asogwa, urged INEC to ensure that the votes count to further deepen democracy.

A Public servant, Mrs. Ada Ilechukwu, called
for free, fair and credible election from INEC.

Others who spoke called for adequate security and expects to see none disenfranchised in the election.

Few days ago, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, reassured Nigerians of the commitment of the electoral body to conducting a free, fair and credible exercise.

Nigerians wait to see the umpire match it’s words with action.
