OKEY AHAIWE EMERGES PDP GUBER CANDIDATE IN ABIA

Chief Okey Ahaiwe has emerged winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in Abia State.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the special Congress Committee and returning officer of the election, Governor Godwin Obaseke of Edo State, said that Chief Ahaiwe polled a total of 469 votes to beat four other contestants.

They are the Deputy Governor Mr. Ude Okochukwu, Senator Emma Nwaka, Mr. Samson Orji and Chief Lucky Igbokwe.

It would be recalled that the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Professor Eleazar Ikonne, died during a brief illness at the Abuja National Hospital on January 25, 2023 which led to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) directing the party to conduct a fresh election.

INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, Mr. Festus Okoye, witnessed the congress.

Radio Nigeria gathered that of the eight contestants for the governorship primay, three of them withdraw from the contest shortly before the poll.
