LOW TURNOUT OF VOTERS GREETS MOCK ACCREDITATION IN EBONYI

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

The Mock Accreditation of Voters organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in six local government areas in Ebonyi State recorded low turn out of voters.

When Radio Nigeria visited Amuro Town Hall Polling Unit, Itim ward and Katikka Play Ground Polling Unit, Ohaisu ward in Afikpo North Local Government Area, a few voters were seen on queue undergoing the mock accreditation.

One of them, Mr. Donatus Isu, explained that he was impressed by the operation of the BIVAS Machine noting that the authentication of both his thumb print and face did not take up to a minute.

Another voter, Mr. Oluchukwu Ukiezeali described BIVAS machine as effective technology for the forthcoming Election, noting that the exercise was seemless.

An INEC Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Igwe said he accredited eleven voters since 8 o’clock in the morning and blamed the low turnout of voters on poor awareness.

The situation was the same at Ugwuachara Primary School Polling Unit, Echiaba ward as well as Station Urban Primary School, Kpirikpiri Ward in Ebonyi Local Government Area as few voters were seen undergoing accreditation.

Official statement from INEC explained that the exercise was to test run the BIVAS machines ahead of the General Election.
