COUNCIL CHAIRMAN REACTS AS LP MEMBERS PROTEST AGAINST ATTACKS IN EBONYI COMMUNITY

Following allegations of attack on members of opposition political party in Oshiri, Onitcha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, the Chairman of the Council, Mr. Chidiebere Uzor, says he will ensure that that residents of the community are not prevented from supporting any political party of their choice.
Briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, Mr. Uzor said he was yet to get reports about attacks on Labour Party faithful by any of his loyalists in Oshiri community and urged security agents to arrest anyone who hide under the guise of politics to attack the people of the community.
Mr. Uzor emphasised that he was a democrat and would not support political violence or acts that intend to impede on the rights of the people to exercise their franchise.
Some Members of Oshiri Community in Onitsha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State had during a protest march called on the Inspector General of Police and Governor David Umahi to intervene over increasing cases of attacks on them for supporting the party of their choice.
They protesters, who carried placards with various inscriptions, emphasisied that politics was not a do or die affair.
The leader of the Protesters, Mr. Sunday Nwinya alleged that some members of the community, including the Labour Party candidate for Onitcha East State Constituency, Mr. Ifeanyi Ogba, had come under attack by some youths allegedly loyal to the Council Chairman while the party office had also been vandalized.
