NOA, NPC LEAD CAMPAIGN ON 2023 CENSUS IN IMO
REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has commenced the sensitization of residents of Imo State to the need to embrace the 2023 national Census to ensure its success.
The State Director of the Agency, Mrs. Maureen Oparaji, made this known while speaking with journalists during a “road show” organized by the Agency in conjunction with the National Population Commission (NPC) in Owerri.
Mrs. Oparaji said the Community Orientation and Mobilization Officers (COMOs) of the NOA were being equipped to take the sensitization and advocacy on the Census to the rural areas, which she said would afford the government necessary data for planning and development.
She expressed concern about the seeming nonchalant attitude of some residents of the state over policies and programmes of the government designed to better their lots and appealed for a change of attitude.
The State Director of the National Population Commission (NPC) in Imo State, Mr. Justice Ike, said arrangements were on top gear to conduct a credible national census that would meet international standards.
He appealed to traditional rulers and authorities of the third tier of government to key into the project and help to educate their people on the need to allow personnel of the commission access to their homes during the census, which he said would correct imbalance in data generation.
Members of staff of NOA, NPC, the, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and War Against Indiscipline (WAI) Brigade, accompanied by security agencies, danced along the major streets of Owerri with a public address system to sensitise the people.
