REPORTER: JOSHUA OBIALO
A consultant physician at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, Dr. Obioma Ekpe, has stressed the need for people to imbibe the habit of regular hand washing.
This is to prevent some diseases.
He gave advice in an interview with Radio Nigeria while commenting on the 2022 World Hand Washing Day celebration.
Dr. Ekpe pointed out that hand washing should be done regularly with soap and clean water or with sanitizer, which contained between 65% alcohol to enhance its efficacy.
He noted that hand washing before meals and after using the toilet would save more lives than vaccination as it could reduce up to 50% respiratory and intestinal diseases and also prevent diarrhoea.
Dr. Ekpe advised people to make regular and proper hand washing a habit in view of the immense benefits.
Global hand washing day is an international hand washing campaign aimed at mobilizing people around the world to improve their hand washing habits.
People are advised to spend up to 20 seconds while washing their hands with soap and running water.
They are also advised to use alcohol based sanitizer to wash their hands only in the absence of water
