Reactions have continued to trail the recent video of some young boys and girls having sex in the open during a pool party in Awka, Anambra State.
While some commended the Anambra State Government for temporarily sealing the hotel premeses, others called on hoteliers and heads of entertainment industry to put stringent measures to ensure that they monitor activities of guests coming to use their facilities.
The Social media was recently awashed with a video of some erotic scenes recorded in an open place during a pool party in one of the hotels located around Ifite, Awka, where the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Off campus hostels are located.
The Sex video sparked up unhindered reactions from residents who took to all known avenues to condemn the act.
Some described it as an immoral act that did not suit the environment where it occurred while others blamed the development on eroding moral values by the younger generation.
The Anambra State Government in a swift press statement issued by the Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Entertainment, Mr. Don Onyenji, sealed the annex of the facility where the incident allegedly took place while investigation into the ugly incident went on.
A stakeholder in the entertainment industry, Mr. Nwoke Udi, while condenming what he called copying of western culture, applauded the step taken by the government to bring sanity to the system.
Another respondent, Mr. Boni Ujuakunna, who described the act as an unfortunate situation, wondered why adults would engage in such immoral behaviour without caution.
Mr. Ujuakunna, who is the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Anambra Bar and Restaurants Association, however said the sealing of the facility without concluding investigation was not in the best interest of hospitality business in the area.
A young lady, who did no identify herself while condemning the circulation of the recorded video online, appealed to the Anambra State Government to consider the plight of staff who might lose their jobs if the sealing of the facility lingered.
She however called on hoteliers to be careful and monitor who and what goes on within their facilities, especially during night events.
In an interview, the Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Mr. Don Onyenji, said Governor Chukwuma Soludo had warned the public, especially tourism and hospitality industry operators, that stiffer measures would be taken against anyone that engaged openly in such an immoral act, which he said was totally against the ethics and moral values of the state.
The Commissioner hinted that the Ministry would be revisiting the sealed facility to inspect it and give them operational principles regulating the industry and which must be adhered to by all players.
“The mandate of the Ministry includes regulating hotels, bars, restaurants in the industry. Very soon we will have them in a portal to enable government monitor their activities.
“Stiffer measures will be taken, defaulters will be prosecuted, it’s against our norm, tradition and moral values, especially when it is done in the open place. The law forbids that.
“We know some people hide in the closest and do such things but Anambra is a clean state and we want to make it prosperous livable city that will attract tourists who will in turn patronize the hotels and other tourism industries across the state,” the Commissioner insisted.
The respondents were hopeful that both the government and the operators of hotels and relaxation centres in the state would put heads together to ensure that the business, which is also contributing to the state Internal revenue, does not suffer setback.
