Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has launched the construction and rehabilitation of about 60.2 kilometers of strategic roads across the state to mark his six months in office.

The Governor, while performing the functions, said he was passionate about building a clean, green, liveable and prosperous homeland for the people of the state.

The roads included 26 km Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba Ofemili road, the 26.2 km Amansea -Ndiukwenu-Awa-Ufuma road, the 600 metres Igboukwu-Isuofia section of the federal road and the 7.79km Akpaka layout road.

The Governor explained that the four roads, located across the three senatorial zones, would bring the total length of roads already commissioned for reconstruction by his administration since inception six months ago to about 80 kms.

Professor Soludo also hinted that construction of additional 220 kms of roads would commence in the next two months.

The Governor identified transport, infrastructure, security of lives and property as well as power among the critical key enablers to help the government project the state to enviable heights.

He further restated his resolve to rid the state of criminal elements even as he called for sustained collaboration between the government and the citizens in that regard.

In a remark, State the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Okoma, said his ministry had negotiated with the contractors handling the projects to ensure that the quality of roads to be delivered would be such that would last for 20 years.

According to the Works Commissioner, about 50% of the cost had already been disbursed to the contractors.

The members representing the various constituencies and their Transition Committee Chairmen expressed their profound gratitude to the government, saying that it would further boost economic activities in their various constituencies.

Some residents and indigenes, who spoke to radio Nigeria while extolling Governor Soludo on the giant strides recorded since his inception, expressed happiness that the state government had lived to its promise of massive road construction.
