EBONYI COMMUNITY SENDS SOS TO GOVT OVER EROSION THREAT
REPORTER: UZO EGWU
Some members of Amaetiti Community in Amoso Edda, Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have raised an alarm over the devastating effects of gully erosion in the area.
In an interview with Radio Nigeria, an elder in the community, Mr. Cyril Uko, appealed to the state government and relevant agencies to come to their aid, stressing that the area would be lost to erosion if intervention would be further delayed.
According to Mr. Uko, some of the houses and economic trees in the community have been washed away by the gully erosion.
He said that the villagers had on many occasions provided palliative measures such as filling the gullies with bags of sands to check the menace to no avail.
For his part, a youth, Mr. Ugochukwu Abara, described the situation as worrisome, noting that almost all the roads in the area had been affected by the erosion.
Mr. Abara therefore called for quick intervention by the government to save the community from further damage.
