NYSC DG CAUTIONS AGAINST UNAPPROVED DUES TAKING ADVANTAGE OF FEMALE CORPS MEMBERS
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Mohammed Fadah, says his administration will not tolerate corruption, especially as it relates to imposition of unapproved dues and taking advantage of female corps members.
He stated this at the 2022 Training Workshop for NYSC Field Officers in the South East Area Office held at NYSC State Secretariat Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The training was designed to provide participants with requisite knowledge of the inspection principles and procedures as well as sharpen their appraisal skills through report writing.
Represented by the Deputy Director NYSC Area Office Enugu, Chief Emeka Ani, the Director General of the Scheme, Brigadier General Fadah charged the Field Officers to shun corruption and follow the Scheme’s guideline to operate uniform Corps Inspection.
He noted that he was aware of factors militating against effective monitoring of corps members and assured the participants that management would continue to brainstorm on how to overcome the challenges.
‘’This include inadequate funding and support for inspection, poor knowledge of the NYSC Act and condition of service and policies, disconnect and mismanagement of corps members with respect to their areas of their primary assignment, insecuity,’’ he enumarated.
The State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mrs. Bamai Mercy, noted that the training was aimed at addressing noticeable lapses as well as to sensitize the participants to the current operational changes for effective service delivery.
‘’And at such, the NYSC Feild Officers are expected to be abreast with the current changes in the scheme as it concerns their duties, hence the organisation of the training is to address the lapses,’’ she said.
Some of the participants, including Mrs. Juliet Haruna and Mr. Onochie Muodi, commended the National Youth Service Corps for deeming it necessary to train them and promised to deploy the knowledge garnered, especially as it concerned report writing.
The theme of the event was “Effective and Efficient Inspection as a Panacea for Defective Corps administration.”
