EBONYI PDP GUBER: COURT NULLIFIES ELECTION OF SEN OGBA, INSISTS ON ODII AS CANDIDATE

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

A Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki has nullified the outcome of a rescheduled primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducted on the 4th and 5th of June in Ebonyi State, which produced Senator Obinna Ogba as the Gubernatorial standard bearer.

The winner of the first Gubernatorial Election conducted in the state, which was purportedly cancelled by the National Working Committee of the PDP for failing to meet party guidlines, Dr. Chukwuma Odii, had approached the court seeking the nullification of the rescheduled election and upholding of the outcome of the May 28th and 29th Primary Election.

Justice Fauntun Rilman who granted all the reliefs sought by the plaintiff declared the outcome of the primary election held on the 4th and 5th June as invalid, noting that it was conducted in violation of extant provisions of the 2022 Electoral Law and the party guidelines.

The Court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining the PDP from refusing to receive and upload the name of the plaintiff to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Rilman also granted a perpetual injunction restraining the PDP from purporting to cancel the Governorship Election held in Ebonyi State on 29th May.

Meanwhile, the National Working Committee has issued Certificate of Return to Senator Obinna Ogba as the authentic winner of the Gubernatorial Primary Election in Ebonyi State

The Chief Press Secretary to Senator Ogba, Mr. Godfrey Odo, who confirmed the development to Radio Nigeria, explained that the event took place in Abuja.
