President Muhammadu Buhari has registered with deep concern the deteriorating security situation in the South East zone with particular reference to rising brutal actions by gang of terrorists.
He expressed his feelings while addressing South East stakeholders meeting at Government House Abakaliki.
The South East Stakeholders meeting, which was part of President Buhari’s two day visit to Ebonyi State, was attended by a first Republic Minister, Chief Mbazuluike Amechi; the Leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide; South East Traditional Rulers Council; Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); former civilian Governors of Ebonyi State; and the Minister of state for Mines and Steel, Dr. Uche Ogar; among others.
President Buhari explained that he had been briefed in the last 48 hours of the brutal actions carried out by gun wielding terrorists, who prey on innocent and hardworking citizens.
He called on the people of the zone to support security agencies to fish out those who carry out barbaric acts and restrict movement, insisting that the detention of the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu should be decided in the Court.
Governor David Umahi called on the leadership of Ohaneze to initiate processes for political solution on the release of the IPOB Leader and appealed to the elite to support the emergence of a South Easterner as President Buhari’s successor in line with the principle of equity and justice.
The Chairman South East Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Charles Nkpuma, a First Republic Minister, Chief Mbazuike Amechi, a representative of the President Ohaneze Ndigbo, Ambassador George Obiozor and CAN Chairman South East, the Reverend Father Abraham Nwali took turns to make passionate appeals for the emergence of Nigeria’s President from South East and the release of Nnamdi Kanu from detention to end agitations in the area.
Radio Nigeria observed that President Buhari departed Ebonyi State shortly after the meeting.
