WE WILL DOCUMENT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN FOR PROPER ACTION — MRS SOLUDO

The wife of the of Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has condemned the increasing rate of violence against women in the society.

Mrs. Soludo made the comment in Awka through the office of the Commissioner of Women’s Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, during a visit by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter.

The Governor’s Wife said Government would start to document incidents of violence against women and girls in the state for appropriate action.

She decried wife battery, girlchild abuse and other violent acts against women, noting that they would not be tolerated under her watch .

Mrs. Soludo urged the public to join hands with government to fight pockets of violence against girls and women in the area.

According to the Governor’s wife, the government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, had planned various programmes aimed at sensitizing women across the state to their core areas of needs and development.

“Women as home builders are to be properly educated and enlightened on their expectations to assist to build a good home and society as well,” She said.

She however urged Women to take to be committed child care and up bringing in order to produce responsible and patriotic people for society.

The Chairperson of NAWOJ in Anambra State, Comrade Franklin Onyekachi, while commending the Governor’s Wife, promised that women journalists in the state would collaborate with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs to ensure it effectively discharges her statutory responsibilities to the citizenry, especially women and girls.

“We are here to ask for collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs, to stop all forms of violence against women and children, because we are all speaking for the welfare of women and children.

“We are speaking against violence against women and girls and all forms of maltreatment. Stop violence against women and children, the society should be a sane society,” the NAWOJ Chairperson stated.

The NAWOJ Chairperson was accompanied on the visit by some of its members.
