SHUN GET RICH QUICK— GOV UGWUANYI ADMONISHES YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS, AS 38 OF THEM GET EXTENSION OF SERVICE YEAR

The Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has urged corps members to shun negative tendencies associated with the get rich syndrome and other vices, especially “Yahoo Scam.”
Governor Ugwuanyi made the appeal in a message to the passing-out ceremony of the 2021, Batch ‘A’, Stream Two corps members of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, scheme held in Enugu.
The Governor was represented by his Special Adviser on Special duties, Chief Uwakwe Azikiwe.
Chief Azikiwe, urged the corps members to be confident in their abilities to earn decent living from honest endeavours and be careful with the kind of company they would keep.
“Given your certificates and strengthened by the experience of the national service, you must remain focused, resolute and confident in your abilities to earn a decent living from genuine endeavours,” he said.
Chief Ugwuanyi reiterated the state government’s resolve to the development of the scheme and improvement of the welfare of corps members.
The Governor commended the corps members for their contribution to the development of salient sectors of the state, especially the health and education sectors.
“The government and the people of Enugu State deeply appreciate your contribution to our development process, especially in the areas of education, health care delivery and campaign against corruption.
“There is no doubt that it is the sacrifice of patriotic youths like you that gives us hope of a better democracy and a stronger nation,” Ugwuanyi said.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr. Sam Ujogu, said the outgone corps members started their national service on May 18, 2021.
Mr. Ujogu said that the event was the first ceremonial passing out parade since 2020 due to the restrictions on public gatherings necessitated by the Coronavirus pandemic.
While commending the corps members for the height attained during their Service year, the State Coordinator, advised them to exhibit a sense of discipline and selflessness as they move to actualize their future aspirations.
“To my outgoing corps members, I congratulate you for acquitting yourselves creditably during the service year.
“As you move ahead to assume greater responsibilities, do not forget the positive experiences you acquired during your service and stay in Enugu State.
“In whatever position you find yourselves in future, always endeavor to exhibit the discipline and selflessness inculcated in you by the NYSC scheme.
“We appreciate your commitments to the realisation of the goals of the NYSC scheme,” Mr. Ujogu said.
He, however, said that twelve corps members who absconded from service would be re-mobilised to start service afresh whenever they resurfaced.
According to the State Coordinator, 38 corps members will have their services extended for various offences that contravened the Bye-Laws of the scheme.
He commended the state government for its goodwill and assistance aimed at improving the scheme in the state.
He said that the scheme was in dire need of a utility vehicle for effective supervision of corps members across the state.
The corps members, who were in high spirit, expressed gratitude and satisfaction with the NYSC scheme and called on the government to make it more attractive to unite youths across country, and also improve on the Skill acquisition program.
One minute silence was observed for a departed corps member Amarachi Jenifer Onuegbu (EN/21A/1303) who was serving at Enugu North Local Government Secretariat , died on Sept. 5, 2021 and hailed from Umuobasi Ugba, Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
