GOV UMAHI SUSPENDS PERM SEC FOR EXTORTION

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has ordered the suspension of the Permanent Secretary, Office of Head of Service indefinitely for alleged extortion of money from newly promoted civil servants in the state.

A statement by the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Emmanuel Obasi, alleged that the Permanent Secretary was complicit in collecting money from the benefiting workers for the typing and collection of their Gen 35.

The statement directed that all Administrative Heads and persons involved in the act should forfeit their one month salary.

According to the statement, they are to ensure full refund of the monies collected by paying same into the bank accounts of the affected workers with tellers submitted to the state government within 48 hours or risk being dismissed from the Civil Service of Ebonyi State.

Governor Umahi directed that the Permanent Secretary, Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) should oversee the Office of Head of Service in Acting capacity while still being the Permanent Secretary incharge of UBEB.
