EASTER: ANGLICAN BISHOP DECRIES CHALLENGING ECONOMIC AND SECURITY SITUATION IN NIGERIA

The Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, the Right Reverend Ndubuisi Obi, has charged Christians to utilize the Easter season to develop the capacity to listen to God who speaks in silence.
Bishop Obi gave the advice in his Easter sermon at the Cathedral Church of St. Mary’s Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State.
The Rt. Rev. Obi, who noted that many Christians had deviated from the teachings of God, who sarcrified all for mankind, urged the people to always acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the only way to everlasting peace.
The Anglican Bishop maintained that the crucification, death and Resurrection of Jesus gave the world victory over death.
The Rt. Rev. Obi, who said that the season reminded Christians that God is always there, encouraged them to ensure that the word ‘‘Emmanuel’’ remained a constant refrain in their mouths.
He emphasised that God spoke through various means in the past, but His final words came through Jesus Christ, who himself affirmed that listening to Him is the best path.
He further stated that the 2022 Easter celebration brought what he termed “the throes of woes and distress circumstances far beyond human control,” since in every part of Nigeria, hearts are heavy with suffering and many deaths.
This, the high priest said, was as a result of terrorism, kidnapping and banditry, insecurity as well as the depressing economic situation, with inflation spiraling out of control.
The bishop pointed out that the growing insecurity and tough economic situation had further crushed the ordinary man who had already been drained of joy, peace and hope.
Radio Nigeria observed that special prayer was offered for God’s grace upon the people during the Easter church service.
