TRAVELERS STRANDED AS MULTIPLE AUTO CRASH CAUSES TRAFFIC JAM ON ENUGU—ABAKALIKI HIGHWAY
REPORTER:AMECHI ODO
A multiple road crash involving a trailer and two tankers at Ezilo bridge has cut off vehicular movement at Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway.
An eyewitness, Mr. MacSylvester Ndolo, explained that one of the trailers plunged into Ezilo River while traffic grid lock streched from the scene to several kilometres on both sides of the Expressway.
He stated that commuters coming from Enugu and Abakaliki axis were forced to disembark from their vehicles and trekked to the other side to board another vehicle to their destinations.
Mr. Ndolo said commercial motorists cashed in on the incident to increase transport fare as a trip from the bridge to Abakaliki was hiked from two hundred to one thousand Naira per passenger.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Loveth Odah, said rescue and clearance operations were on going at the spot to restore free flow of traffic.
