POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED TOUTS, ILLEGAL REVENUE COLLECTORS, VANDALS, ARMED ROBBERS IN ANAMBRA

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Echeng Echeng, says the ongoing effort to rid the state of all manner of crimes and criminality is yielding enviable results.

Mr. Echeng stated this following the successful arrest of thirteen suspects for various offences ranging from touting and illegal revenue collections, vandalism to other related violent crimes across the State.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra State, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, said four of the male suspects, Emmanuel Igwe, Chukwudi Obasi, Izuchukwu Enemuwa and Uchenna Benedict were arrested on the Bridge Head, Onitsha while allegedly touting and collecting revenue illegally from motorists and other members of the public.

Another suspect, Chimezie Nwankwo of Ezimunya Village, Umunya Community, was intercepted and arrested on March 23, 2022, on the Airport Road, Nteje.

The statement noted that the police allegedly recovered from him a hiace bus, three hammers, two axes and a police belt with which he, alongside two others still at large, were said to have used to terrorize citizens and steal armored cables installed around the Anambra State Airport.

According to the statement, Ali Friday of Dusogu Village, Awkuzu; Onuorsh Chukwuemeka of Eziama village, Igbariam; Igboegbunam Chiemelie of Amabor Village, Abba; Chinedu Chukwuobi of Imengu Village, Igbariam; and Oforbuike Alegu of Akpu Village, Abagana were arrested on March 22, 2022 for being in possession of vandalized armoured cables and a car battery.

Also the statement indicated that Chukwuemeka Anyanti, Chijoke Anyanti, and Onyedika Anyanti, all from Nkwelle Village, Oyi L.G.A. of Anambra State were arrested on March 24, 2022 for allegedly being in possession of one locally fabricated single barrel pistol and two live cartridges.

The statement said that the Commissioner of Police while reiterating the unwavering commitment of the Command towards weeding out all criminal elements in the state, enjoined all law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support the Command, especially through prompt and accurate information.
