15 YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS TO REPEAT THEIR SERVICE YEAR IN EBONYI

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says fifteen Corps members of 2021 Batch A, Stream 1 deployed to Ebonyi State for their one year mandatory service to the nation absconded from their areas of primary assignment and will repeat their service year.
The Coordinator of the Scheme in the State, Mrs. Mercy Dauda, stated this during a low key passing out ceremony organised for corps members, who completed their service year at the Headquarters of Abakaliki Local Government, Nkaliki.
A total of six hundred and fifty eight of them passed out, having successfully completed their service year, while fourteen had their service year extended for committing sundry offences and fifteen asked to repeat for abscondment.
Mrs. Dauda represented by the Assistant Director in charge of Human Resources, Mr. John-Henry Suru, commended the corps members for serving as bond of unity for the country and charged them to be relevant in the nation’s economic development.
‘’It doesn’t matter the course you read, I know most of you have taken advantage of skill acquisition programme either the hard skill or soft skill but which ever lane you found yourself, be dedicated and good at it,” he advised.
The Assistant Director Corps Development South East Area office, Mrs. Ifeoma Ben-Ushie, who represented the Director NYSC South East Area, Mrs. Ngozi Nwatarali, urged the out gone corps members to deploy what they learnt from SAED programme to make themselves self-reliant.
She warned them against engaging in internet fraud and other unwholesome get rich quick practices, noting that they had eroded the morals of the youths.
“Don’t follow the crowd, don’t conform with the trend, don’t even do yahoo not to talk of the plus because there are so many things that are distracting young people now,” she cautioned.
Some of the corps members expressed delight for successfully completing their service year, promising to be good ambassadors of the scheme in their future endeavours.
‘’I was deployed from Taraba to Ebonyi State and today I am still healthy, sound and I am going back with my health.
“I am so happy that I have passed out, I want to say thank you to NYSC,’’ they said.
High point of the event was the presentation of Discharge and SAED certificates to the Corps members.
