A section of the headquarters of the Enugu State Broadcasting Service, ESBS, Enugu has been gutted by fire. Radio Nigeria gathered that the incident, which occurred in the early hours of today shortly after the station opened for the day’s broadcast, affected the ground floor, including offices close to the Newsroom.
The studio and other critical parts of the station are said to be intact. Report says the fire would have escalated to other parts of the building but for the timely intervention of the State Fire Service. Though the cause of the fire is not yet certain as at the time of filing this report, some persons suspect it could be a power surge. A member of staff of the State Broadcasting Service, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said electrical appliances in the station had been switched off to check for any electrical fault.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of that station, Mr. Chukwuma Ogbonna, who confirmed the incident, told Radio Nigeria that Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, had already visited the station for on the spot assessment.
