NATIONAL OBSTETRICS FISTULA CENTRE ABAKALIKI REPAIRS OVER 3000 PATIENTS FREE OF CHARGE, SEEKS MORE FUNDING

The Medical Director National Obstetric Fistula Centre Abakaliki in Ebonyi State, Professor Johnson Obuna, has called for more funding from government and spirited individuals to enable the centre to do more in the repair of fistula patients and rendering of other clinical services.
Professor Obuna, who made the call while speaking with journalists in Abakaliki, explained that so far 3,063 fistula patients had been repaired at the centre free of charge while some of them were also rehabilitated.
He noted that the Centre had so far screened 21,209 cervical and breast cancer patients of which 941 had been treated.
Dr. Obuna emphasised that the Centre had also expanded its core mandate to accommodate other reproductive health cases, pointing out that 55 gender based violence related cases, which cut across rape and Female Genital Mutilation had been handled from August 2020 till now.
