The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Paul Emeziem, has been impeached.

The Speaker was removed by 19 out of the 27 lawmakers that constitute the Assembly during an emergency sitting in Owerri.

The 19 lawmakers allegedly signed a letter, which was read on the floor of the House.

The former Speaker was alleged to have been removed on the allegations of gross misconduct, forgery, abuse of office and high handedness.

Meanwhile, the Member representing Obowo constituency, Mr. Kennedy Ib,e has been sworn in as the new speaker of the House.

The embattled speaker had on Tuesday last week announced the removal of his former deputy, Mr. Amara Iwuanyanwu, following a petition signed by his colleagues.
