ANAMBRA GUBER: GOV OBIANO DECLARES THURSDAY & FRIDAY AS PUBLIC HOLIDAY

Anambra State Government has declared Thursday and Friday this week work free days.

Governor Willie Obiano, who made the pronouncement at the 2021 Public Service Day celebration at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, said that the gesture is to enable the civil servants prepare for the November 6th election in the state.

Governor Obiano, while thanking the workers for the support they had given his administration, reassured them of regular payment of their salaries and pensions.

He promised that government would continue to reward loyalty, productivity, discipline and excellence within the work force.

The Governor used the opportunity to urge the workers and people of the state to come out en masse on Saturday to vote for a person who would take the state to enviable heights.

He assured them that security personnel were on ground to protect them.

In an address of welcome, the State Head of Service, Mr. Harry Udu, said that the Public Service Day was for stock taking by the work force who serve as the engine of government.

Mr. Udu thanked the Governor for his continuous promotion of welfare of public servants through prompt payment of salaries and pensions as well as promotion and annual largesse of bags of rice for Christmas celebration, among others.

He tasked the work force to take the leading role in maximizing productivity in the state.

Some of the workers, who spoke at the event, including the Chairman National Light Pensioners, Mr. ABC Ubani, noted that since the creation of the state, no administration had paid pension to the State newspaper pensioners, until the Obiano-led administration came on board.

Some deserving civil servants were given awards of excellence in the occasion.

The Workers’ day celebration had in attendance members of the State Executive, chairmen of Commissions, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, Heads of Parastatals, Departments and Agencies.
