The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented Certificate of Return to the Governor Elect of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.

The Deputy Governor Elect, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, also received his Certificate of Return.

Presenting the certificates to the APGA candidates in Awka, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, represented by the Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC, Mr. Festus Okoye, noted that the exercise was in compliance with Section 75 of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.

He affirmed that the presentation signified that the APGA candidates won the 2021 Gubernatorial Election in the state.

Professor Yakubu stressed that the election was conducted in a challenging environment due to the political tensions in the South East, insisting that aborting the polls would have created serious constitutional crisis in the country.

The INEC Chairman said the election met standards of credible poll and indicated that Anambra State citizens believed in using democracy to resolve issues.

Professor Yakubu pledged that the commission would continue to improve on the use of Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in conducting elections as was the case during the supplementary poll that concluded the process.

The Governor-Elect of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, commended INEC for discharging its duties professionally.

Professor Soludo explained that the outcome showed that INEC was committed to ensuring a free and fair electoral process.

He applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for creating an atmosphere to guard against manipulating the Governorship poll in the area.

The event was witnessed by political and community leaders as well as members of Civil Society Organizations.
