ABIA GOV’s WIFE HOLDS CAPACITY WORKSHOP TO CONTAIN GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

The Wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, has charged stakeholders in the security sector to ensure that they contribute their quote to the fight against gender based violence (GBV) in the state.
Mrs. Ikpeazu gave the charge during a 3day capacity workshop on Strengthening the Evidence and Response Pathway for Gender Based Violence in the state.
Mrs. Ikpeazu urged the participants to take the workshop seriously as the state government was committed to reducing the ugly incident.
She noted that the training would be based on survival centered approach, multi sectional coordination, critical care, evidence gathering and school related gender based violence.
Mrs. Ikpeazu stated that the training would involved security personnel, health workers and stakeholders in the education sector.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Rose Urenta, noted that state government would continue to engage several stakeholders in the campaign against GBV as well as putting a check in all forms of harmful traditional practices that hinders women advancement.
In a remark the Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Janet Agbade, urged Nigerians, especially women that fell victims of gender based violence to report to appropriate quarters for justice to take place.
Over two hundred security personnel drawn from the Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense participated in the first day of the training.
