The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Imo State Command has uncovered an illegal oil dump site in Owerri allegedly operated by crude oil thieves in the state.
The State Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Micheal Ogar, led a team of his men to the site located around Akachi Road in Owerri metropolis and seized more than four trailer-loads of various petroleum products dumped in the area.
He said the discovery followed an intelligence report by members of the public on the activities of oil vandals in the state.
Commandant Ogar warned those engaging in oil bunkering and other activities that sabotage the nation’s economy to relocate, noting that the state was no longer safe for such illegal businesses.
“I have information of all the bunkering locations here in Owerri and I want to clean first before moving to the hinterland like Ngor Okpala and others, that is the dump where all the stolen products are kept for distribution,” the NSCDC boss stated.
Mr. Ogar said six persons had been arrested in connection with the oil theft.
He insisted that the suspects would be made to face the wrath of the law as soon as investigations were over.
Meanwhile, some of the suspect, including drivers told journalists that they were not aware that the products they were conveying were not genuine.
