UMAHI FUMES OVER RENAMING OF ABAKALIKI STREET IN AWKA
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has condemned an alleged renaming of Abakaliki Street in Awka by the Anambra State Government.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Uzor, Governor Umahi expressed dismay that Abakaliki Street was renamed Club Street, an action he said had caused uproar in the social media.
Governor Umahi said though his counterpart, Governor Willie Obiano, had every constitutional right to rename any structure in his state, what should come to mind were the unity and protection of legacies that hold Ndigbo together as a people.
Chief Umahi called on the people of the state living in Anambra State to remain calm as he had contacted his Anambra counterpart with the aim of getting him to reverse the action.
