GLOBAL COMMUNITY MARKS WORLD RABIES DAY

As the global community marks this year’s World Rabies Day, Nigerians have been advised to avoid being bitten by pets to prevent rabies.

The National Secretary General, Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria, Dr. Ugwunna Nwachukwu who explained that the greater percentage of rabies related deaths occur  among  people below the age of fifteen, advised parents to always protect children from unnecessary contact with animals such as dogs and cats.

The Chairman, Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association, Enugu state Chapter, Dr. Kelvin Ugwuomarima advised pets and other animal owners to ensure that they innoculate them against rabies to minimize its transmission to man

The theme of this year’s event is Rabies: Zero by thirty which is aimed at achieving zero human deaths from canine rabies by twenty-thirty.
