TODAY IS AFRICAN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE DAY
Substantive percentage of the Population in Africa relies on indigenous herbs, which is part of traditional medicine for their basic health needs.
On the occasion of this year’s African Traditional Medicine Day, the Director General, Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization, Doctor Ferdinand Anikwe wants the promotion of the achievements and discoveries made by African Traditional Medicine Practitioners.
Doctor Anikwe explained that medicinal plants, herbs, roots and leaves, had been used in the Continent during Pre-colonial era with good results.
According to him, Scientist are still utilizing the medicinal properties of these herbs .
Most countries in Africa are marking the Day by advocating, strengthening collaboration between traditional medicine and institutionalized health care in line with WHO strategy.
