WIFE OF THE ABIA STATE GOVERNOR APPLAUDS WOMEN FOR PROMOTING GENDER ISSUES.

Women have been told to ensure that they contribute their quota towards national development. The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu gave the advice  in Umuahia during  a meeting with members of the National Council of Women Society[ NCWS]  Abia State Chapter.

Mrs Ikpeazu noted that the purpose of the meeting was to brainstorm on ways of repositioning NCWS as well as put in place an effective and proactive leadership with clear vision and mission.

She commended the women for promoting  gender issues and diligently pursuing the implementation of the thirty five percent affirmative action.

“We recall the case of Aba Women Riot, we recall cases of other women in the Western Nigeria, it is because they had one organization or the other through which they can galvanize women to work for the collective interest of women.“

In a remark, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Lady Chinedu Brown explained that the organisation  was founded with the aim of bringing together non partisan women organizations to assist the female folk to be good home makers and nation builders.Also contributing on the occasion, the Member representing Aba North in the State House of Assembly and Chairperson House Committee on Women Affairs, Mrs. Blessing Nwagba advised women to always work hard to achieve their potential.

“Infact it is a welcome idea. We bring NCWS executive and other stakeholders from the various local governments to brainstorm, to know their right from their left, that they should rally women together and look for skills acquisition Centres in the rural areas.“

The wife of the Governor inaugurated an Election Committee that would supervise the emergency of new leadership of NCWS Abia State Chapter.
