WIFE OF ABIA GOVERNOR LAMENTS ABUSE OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN HOMES
The Abia State House of Assembly has been urged to give greater attention to gender issues on women and children, especially the girl-child.
The wife of the Abia state Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu made this known when she led a coalition of women’s group on an Advocacy visit to the Speaker and members of the state House of Assembly in Umuahia.
Mrs. Ikpeazu noted that a large percentage of women and children were experiencing physical, emotional, verbal, economic and sexual abuse in their homes.
Mrs. Ikpeazu while commending the House for its speedy passage of the law for the identification of Blood Group and Genotype noted that government embarked on intensive sensitization of the populace with the view to reducing the prevalence of diseases.
The Speaker Abia state House of Assembly, Mr. Chikwendu Kalu, commended the wife of the Governor for her concern in creating awareness towards the welfare of women and children in the society and assured that the House would give attention to their requests.
