TWO SUSPECTED CHILD KIDNAPPERS ARRESTED IN EBONYI STATE

Police in Ebonyi State have arrested two suspects for alleged kidnapping of two minors in Afikpo South Local Government Area of the state.

Parading the suspects at Police Headquarters Abakaliki, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mrs Loveth Oda explained that the suspects were part of a five man gang who attacked the home of one James Olughu at Osso Edda Community in the Council Area.

Mrs. Oda explained that the gang had during the attack burnt the furniture of Mr. Olughu and abducted two children aged eight and four who were said to be living with him.

The two children were rescued last week through the efforts of men of Anti-Kidnapping Squad.

In an interview, one of the suspected kidnappers, Emmanuel Otuu confessed that he was lured into the business by the leader of the gang known as Emeka.

According to the suspect, Emeka promised to give him two hundred thousand Naira for him to serve as a cook for the abducted Children.

However, the second suspected kidnapper, Uchenna Abani denied any involvement in the abduction but explained that he became a victim after stumbling into the hideout of the kidnappers in the bush while going to check his trap.

Also paraded was one Chukwu Christian arrested for being in possession of illegal fire arm and ten live cartridges. The Police Public Relations Officer said he was apprehended at the Mechanic village axis while his accomplices fled on sighting a stop and search police team.

The suspected gun runner, Chukwu Christian told newsmen that the gun and cartridges he was arrested with were purchased by his friends in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area.

Radio Nigeria gathered that efforts were being made to arrest other fleeing members of the gang while those paraded would soon be arraigned.
