SOUTH EAST GOVERNORS’ FORUM MOVES TO ADDRESS THE ECONOMY OF THE ZONE
The Southeast Governors have restated their commitment towards ensuring rapid economic growth in the Zone. The Chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, made this known while briefing journalists on the resolution of the Governors after a closed-door meeting at the Enugu State Government House.
Governor Umahi noted that the Governors were committed to ensuring improved power supply and the growth of agriculture in the area. Chief Umahi further mentioned the names of two persons appointed from each State of the Southeast to make up the economic Committee earlier agreed upon by the forum.
They include a former Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji, Dr. Chukwuma Agu, Professor Osita Ogbu, Doctor Emma Okoro and Mr. Ifeatu Onejieme. Others are Mr. Mark Okoye, Mr. Obinna Mbata, Professor Bernard Odo, Chief Iyke Njoku,and Mr. Denis Ekumankama.
Meanwhile, in an interview, the Managing Director, Bank of Agriculture, Mr Kabiru Muhammad Adamu, after a presentation to the Southeast Governors said that the bank had disbursed over nine billion naira to farmers in the Zone and noted that the bank would now focus on supporting rural women. Mr. Adamu emphasized that the bank was committed to offering expertise and technical support to South-East States in line with the Federal Government’s quest to diversify the economy.
