Police in Ebonyi State clear the air on the suspected IED discovered in Okposi community.

ebonyi2Police in Ebonyi State say the suspected Improvised Explosive Device, IED discovered by a scavenger in Okposi community, Ohaozara Local Government Area is a Landmine suspected to have been planted during the Nigerian Civil War.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jude Madu explained that the object which was discovered at Onu-EzeukwuUzo stream in the community was taken to Force Ballistics Headquarters Abuja where it was proved to be a landmine.

“Discovered it wasn’t a planted bomb, it was one of these land mines you know that must have been used during the civil war and they directed that it should be destroyed. Some of these things couldn’t detonate in their time. Like this one from what I understood fell inside the river.“

According to Mr. Madu, the Landmine has been destroyed after the scientific examination while the Command’s Bomb Disposal Squad has carried out a search operation in the area to ensure that the place is safe from mines.

The Image Maker of the Command also announced that an Acting Commissioner of Police in the person of Mr. Felix Gani has assumed office at the Command’s Headquarters following the departure of the substantive Boss, Mrs. Peace Abdallahwho has proceeded on a one year course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru near Jos, Plateau State.
