N-POWER BENEFICIARIES IN ENUGU PROTEST NON- PAYMENT OF FIVE MONTHS STIPENDS

indexA cross section of beneficiaries of the N-Power Volunteer Corps Programmes in Enugu State has protested non- payment of their outstanding five months salary. They chanted solidarity songs as they matched to Radio Nigeria Enugu entrance gate displaying placards.

The placards read N-Power we are tired of constant verification, N-Power please pay us our five months stipends, N-Power why are we left out in Enugu state? One of the protesters, Benson Ugwuoke said that after engaging in series of verifications, they were being rejected and neglected by the N-power proprietors.

Some protesters interviewed said the situation had brought untold hardship to them and their families.  Meanwhile, when Radio Nigeria visited the state secretariat, the N-power beneficiaries were seen in their hundred struggling for queue to be verified at the Economic planning Commission’s Office.

The Executive Secretary, Enugu State Economic Planning Commission, Mr Dan Onyishi in a Telephone interview blamed the delay on computer rejection of some profiles of the beneficiaries alleging that some of them gave conflicting information.  Mr Onyishi however, said that those of them who did not receive their stipends by end of this month due to improper verification could re-apply for the next batch.
