EBONYI STATE DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF ARRESTED

There was a mild drama at the Exco Chamber, Government House, Abakaliki in Ebonyi State on Thursday as Governor David Umahi ordered for immediate arrest of his Deputy Chief of Staff, Professor Fidelis Okpata and other political appointees from two warring communities in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.

Professor Okpata and some of the appointees were seated at the Chamber for an expanded security meeting following clashes involving their community Ekpomaka and another neighbouring Community Inyimagu when they were rounded up on the orders of the Governor.

Governor Umahi who was visibly angry over the clashes ordered the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Titus Lamorde who was also present at the meeting to detain the appointees till the crisis was resolved.

Chief Umahi warned that he would not fold his hands and allow enemies of peace to maim innocent residents of the state.

The political appointees were immediately taken into a waiting vehicle and driven to the Police Headquarters, Abakaliki in line with the order of the Governor.
