DISPLACED PERSONS AT AZUOFIDA EBONYI STATE RECEIVE ASSISTANCE

EBONYI+STATE+MAPThe National Commissioner for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons has distributed building materials worth millions of Naira to families displaced at Azuofida in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.

This followed a crisis with their neighbours from Cross River State.

Distributing the materials in Abakaliki, the Federal Commissioner in charge of the Commission, HajiaSabiya Umar Farouk explained that the gesture was part of Federal government’s efforts to give the victims a new lease of life.

“The Commission is also redirecting focus on profile data and coordination because it is only when we have a robust data in place that we will be able to plan effectively for these people.”

Governor David Umahi represented by his Deputy, DrKelechi Igwe commended the Federal Government for its quick response to the plight of the victims but called on the commission to prevail on Cross River State Government to collaborate with Ebonyi State Government to resolve all lingering boundary matters in the area.

Some of the internally displaced persons expressed gratitude to the government but lamented that their children could no longer go to school as a result of the crisis.

Very worrisome that the people who have continue to attack them have not let them to be.Recently,  Ebonyi State had to move the security agencies to Azuofida. We are also to invite the GOC Commanding 82 Division to move the military to that Azuofidabecause we think that the Cross River State Government is not willing to ensure the crisis is resolved.”

Materials distributed include bundles of zinc, bags of cement, Planks and nails.
