As part of efforts to curb the perennial conflicts between herdsmen and farmers in the area, the Abia State government through the House of Assembly is to come up with a resolution concerning farmers and herdsmen clashes in some communities in the area. In a communiqué issued at the end of a peace meeting between herdsmen and farmers in Umuahia, it noted that on no account should a farmer or herdsman resort to violence no matter the level of provocation but should rather seek for a redress through due process.
The communiqué urged the police and other security agencies not to be partial in handling issues of farmers and herdsmen in the area. It also stated that all herdsmen coming into any area in the state must be properly screened by both the leaders and native authorities. The communiqué directed all cattle owners to ensure that cattle were restricted during the night by tying them to stakes.
