IFEANYI3Nigeria_PoliceThe 2016 edition of the zone 9 police games kicked off yesterday at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Declaring the games open, the Governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi said that the police games had aided in the development of sports in the country. He emphasized on the importance of sports to the mental and physical fitness among members of the force. He also noted that his government had set up a policy to enhance the development of sports in the state to engage the youths positively.
Also speaking at the event, the Assistant Inspector General of police zone 9, Usman Gwary said that though crime prevention and detection remained the fundamental and cardinal responsibility of the police, the force adopts a development strategy to include sporting activities in its busy schedule.
Highlight of the event was the opening football match between Enugu Sate Police Command and Imo State Police Command. The game ended 1-0 in favour of Enugu State Police Command, Udoh Martins scored the only goal of the game.
The 2016 police games which will hold from 25th to 30th of January will feature events such as Judo, Taekwando, Football, Boxing, Handball, Squash, Karate, Wrestling, Tennis, Swimming, Badminton among other.
