EDINSON CAVANI FIRES PSG TO FIRST LEG VICTORY OVER CHELSEA
Edinson Cavani handed PSG the advantage against a Chelsea team missing skipper John Terry due to injury. The hosts will now take a narrow lead to Stamford Bridge after beating Chelsea 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League encounter at the Parc des Princes.
Substitute Edinson Cavani fired in the winning goal in the 78th minute after Chelsea’s defence had withstood heavy pressure for most of the game on Tuesday night.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic had given PSG the lead earlier in the night after his free-kick deflected off the boot of John Obi Mikel to leave goal keeper Thibaut Courtois stranded. Mikel however made amends for his earlier error by equalizing just before the half time whistle after a superb Diego Costa near post header from a corner.
But Cavani struck what could be a decisive goal for Laurent Blanc’s side ahead of the second leg in three weeks after he got on the end of a perfectly weighted Angel Di Maria Through ball and calmly slotted the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.
It is all set up perfectly for the second leg in Stamford Bridge and with a slender 2-1 lead both teams have everything to play for.
